Many women report extremely heavy periods at high altitude, whilst others report having had none at all. If you do have heavy periods up there, don't panic.
Some medical practitioners will recommend that, if you intend to spend prolonged periods of time at high altitude, you should not continue to take the contraceptive pill. The main concern is that high altitude increases the risk of a potential side effect of thrombosis (blood clotting), which can be extremely dangerous. The suggestion is not absolute and will depend on your own personal medical record and history so seek professional advice - and remember sex can occur at high altitude!
