Issues for women (by Wendy Miles)

Tibet is a relatively safe and easy country for women travellers. Generally speaking, Tibetan men will be more frightened of you than you need be of them. The religious issues are reasonably unobtrusive and often quaint - be sensible and keep yourself covered in temples (shoulders and legs).
It is axiomatic that you should make sure you are fit before you endeavour to travel into the extreme high-altitude conditions of Tibet - particularly if you plan to travel by bicycle. Make sure your bike both fits and suits you - especially your seat! Crop top bras (such as the Nike Dri-Fit) are very good. Support is not the big issue - it is comfort.
It is slightly difficult, although not impossible, to find tampons in large cities in Tibet. Outside the large cities in all three places it is virtually impossible. Therefore, you will need to carry a large supply of your chosen product.
