Tibet Overview: Culture
Mythology | Tibetan Buddhism | Culture books
Tibetan Buddhism grew into an institution in itself, based on a series of schools. The Nyingma was the first wave of Tibetan Buddhism, which emerged in the 8th century. The Sakya and Kaygu formed the second wave of Tibetan Buddhism, which emerged in two separate regions in Tibet in the 11th century. The Gelug school (which includes the Dalai Lama) is the most recent adaptation of Tibetan Buddhism and it emerged in the 14th century.
